| An abstract expressionist, Mr. Craig uses the jeweled colors of the Caribbean's flora and the undulating shapes of the landscape as inspiration for many of his paintings. His work is a rich tapestry in abstract symbolism, frequently retracing the roots of the peoples of the Caribbean, Africa and the Americas documenting long forgotten ways of life. Using signs and symbols, luxuriously textured surfaces, paint gauged and scratched, his work eventually gives birth to new internal languages of the heart, mind and soul.
Texture, colors and shapes are very important. The use of found objects is integrated in the creation of some of his works. These are collected in his travels - e.g., old crushed tin cans, engine parts, etc. Other metals as well as sand of various textures and colors; pebbles and natural vegetable fibers such as palm and banana are often integrated in the works. Gauze, burlap and other fibers are often used to enrich the surface. He seems to really enjoy the quality and brilliance that evolves from the use of gold leaf, which is compatible with any media. Modeling pastes are also sometimes used to build up and create additional texture. All of the above materials along with the composition and design elements, decorative or otherwise, help to create in his paintings, a jeweled quality echoing the rich tapestry of creativity without which, homo sapiens could not exist
